Match Report
Tonbridge School 2nd XI vs  Eton College
On: Saturday, 18 May 2019
Venue: at Home

This was always going to be a tough game for us when we fell short of a par score of around 200 off the 50 overs. John Hogan did well for his 32 and several others either got a start or were involved in useful partnerships, especially after lunch, but there were some needless dismissals with batters either holing out or missing straight ones. The learning point here is to read the match situation; the slump from 80-2 to 104-6 was avoidable; big shots were not needed in the half hour before lunch. We bowled and fielded with great resolve and intensity; this was very pleasing. Eton knew that they were in a match. And it was tough with a wet outfield. All our bowlers had them guessing, and when we took the pace off the ball and mixed it up a bit we really exerted pressure. We were aided by pretty impressive fielding including a couple of blinding catches.
